Determining the normality of data using Microsoft Excel

Determine if the following set of data is normally distributed:

5.57	5.40	8.08	6.93	2.05
5.51	3.31	8.74	6.00	6.59
5.67	1.97	3.05	4.27	3.61
5.09	5.43	6.59	6.11	5.70

Put all the data in column A from A1 to A20. From Gerry's Stats Tools, choose Normality Test:

• The input range is a1:a20.
• I choose b1 for the output range.

Here is the output:

The data is normally distributed
at a 5% level of significance
Critical value: 0.19
Test statistic: 0.176
